eCrossfade

By Mix plug-ins

With the eCrossfade plug-in you can mix your video tracks with Ableton Live’s crossfade using different blend modes and visual effects.

Adding the eCrossfade plug-in to your Live set

To add the eCrossfade plug-in to your Live set just drag the plug-in from the EboSuite plug-ins folder to any track.

Mixing videos

Read more about mixing videos in the ‘Mixing videos‘ section of this manual.

Crossfading

To use the eCrossfade plug-in’s visual effects assign at least two video tracks to the AB crossfade sources. Once assigned, you can control the audio and video mix between these tracks with Ableton Live’s crossfader or manually with the slider in the eCrossfade plug-in’s interface.

When the eCrossfade plug-in is loaded on a track you can select different visual effects to enhance your crossfade mix. Currently there are ten crossfade effects available:

  • XFade - standard opacity fade from A to B
  • Additive - fade from A to B using additive compositing
  • Multiply – fade from A to B using multiply compositing
  • Difference – fade from A to B using difference compositing
  • Luma – fade from A to B using luma keying
  • Chroma – fade from A to B using chroma keying
  • WipeSide – wipe from A to B
  • WipeMid – wipe from A to B
  • WipeCircular – wipe from A to B
  • WipeVertical – wipe from A to B

Alternate on beat

Use the ‘Alternate on beat’ toggle when more than one video track is assigned to a crossfade channel (set to ‘A’ or ‘B’). When the Alternate on beat toggle is checked, EboSuite will automatically switch on the beat between video tracks that are assigned to the same crossfade channel.

eVideoSend

By Mix plug-ins

Use the eVideoSend plug-in to

  • send the visual output of a track to a track with an eVideoReceive plug-in in your Live Set
  • route the output of your video tracks to other video applications (that support Syphon) like VJ-, video mapping- or visual effects software or to the Syphon Recorder application.

Note: in EboSuite 1.x this plug-in was called eSyphonOut. The functionality and interface are the same.

Adding the eVideoSend plug-in to your Live set

To add the eVideoSend plug-in to your Live set just drag the plug-in from the EboSuite plug-ins folder to the Master track or a MIDI/Audio track with EboSuite plug-ins. Use the eVideoSend plug-in on the Master track to send the final visual mix to other tracks (containing the eVideoReceive plug-in) or other video applications (that support Syphon). Use the eVideoSend plug-in on an individual track to send the video output of a single track.

Syphon

The eVideoSend plug-in uses Syphon to send visual streams to the eVideoReceive plug-ins or other applications supporting Syphon. Syphon is designed to be efficient and will not duplicate resources unnecessarily. This makes EboSuite very flexible and easy to use with other video applications.

Set the Syphon stream name

The Syphon stream name is the name that will appear in the target eVideoReceive plug-in or external video application, so it is recommended to choose a clear, recognisable name to avoid confusion. When naming the stream is set to ‘Auto’ the stream will automatically be named after the Ableton Live track on which the eVideoSend plug-in is loaded. When set to ‘Manual’ you can enter a custom name.

Vertical flip texture

In some cases the texture will be flipped vertically when it is received by the target application. Use this feature to correct this.

eVideoReceive

By Mix plug-ins

Use the eVideoReceive plug-in to:

  • receive the visual output of a video track containing an eVideoSend plug-in.
  • receive the visual output of other video applications that support Syphon, so you can use their output in the EboSuite video mix.

Note: in EboSuite 1.x this plug-in was called eSyphonIn. The functionality and interface are the same.

Adding the eVideoReceive plug-in to your Live set

To add the eVideoReceive plug-in to your Live set just drag the plug-in from the EboSuite plug-ins folder to a MIDI/Audio track.

Syphon

The eVideoReceive plug-in uses Syphon to receive visual streams from eVideoSend plug-ins or other applications supporting Syphon. Syphon is designed to be efficient and will not duplicate resources unnecessarily. This makes EboSuite very flexible and easy to use with other video applications.

Receive video from another track in the Live Set

To receive the visual output of a track in the Live Set, make sure an eVideoSend plug-in is present on that track. If an eVideoSend plug-in is present its track name will show up in the stream selection drop down menu. Simply select the name of the track to receive its visual output in the eVideoReceive plug-in.

Receive video from another application

When another application that supports Syphon is running (and Syphon is enabled), its Syphon name will automatically show up in the available Syphon stream list in the eVideoReceive plug-in. Simply select its name to receive its visual output and use it in EboSuite.

Link Opacity To Volume

When Link Opacity To Volume is enabled, the volume fader of the track will control the opacity of the incoming Syphon stream. Disable this feature to control opacity manually or with track automation.

eReturnTrack

By Mix plug-ins

Use the eReturnTrack plug-in to use Ableton Live’s Sends and ReturnTracks to mix video.

Adding the eReturnTrack plug-in to your Live Set

To add the eReturnTrack plug-in to your Live set just drag the plug-in from the EboSuite plug-in folder to a return track in your Live Set.

Using the eReturnTrack plug-in

When an eReturnTrack plug-in is present on a return track in your Live Set, you can use the Sends of the audio and MIDI tracks with EboSuite plug-ins to send their visual output to the return track. The amount of the Sends parameter determines the opacity of the video in the return track.

Mixing order

You can send multiple video tracks to a return track. The order of the tracks and the send amount determines the order and the opacity of the video tracks in the video mix of the return track. Add visual effects to enhance the mix. The output of the return track is mixed on top of EboSuite’s master video mix.

Opacity Mode

The opacity of the eGroup plug-in is automatically linked to the volume slider of Ableton Live’s audio mixer. A lower volume will result in a more transparant video (fade out). You can control the video opacity manually by setting it to Manual.

Mute Audio

Enabling Mute Audio will mute the sound of the return track, so only the video is mixed and visible in the EboSuite video mix. The sound of the video tracks sent to the return track is not audible in Ableton Live’s audio mix.

eMask

By Mix plug-ins

Use the eMask plug-in to mask out a part of the video track to show only a part of the track.

Adding the eMask plug-in to your live set

To add the eMask plug-in to your Live set just drag the plug-in from the EboSuite plug-in folder to a group, an audio or MIDI track with EboSuite plug-ins or the master track.

eFade

By Mix plug-ins

Use the eFade plug-in to control the opacity of  a video track.

Adding eFade to your Live Set

To add the eFade plug-in to your Live set just drag the plug-in from the EboSuite Plug-ins folder to a group or an audio or MIDI track with EboSuite plug-ins. Note that the eFeedback plug-in doesn’t work on the master track.

Creative Fading

Use the Hue, Saturation, Value, Curve X and Curve Y dials to control the way the eFade plug-in changes the opacity. To create a regular fade, set the Fade dial to maximum and use the Dry/Wet dial to fade the video track in and out.

Smooth

Use the Smooth controller to even out the motion of the fade parameters. Increasing this parameter will make the eFade plug-ins ignore rapid value changes to reduce noise and to create a more continuous, fluent, natural motion.
